It does not wait to be asked.

A pressed button assumes someone is able to press it. This watch watches for the fall itself — then sounds, so the next room hears it, and gives thirty seconds to say you are fine. If nobody says it, the family gets pictures and sound from before, during and after, and can see for themselves whether this is a call or an ambulance.

How it knows

A fall has a shape. The last part is the one that counts.

Three things have to happen in order, within seconds of each other. Two of them happen all day long and mean nothing on their own.

The drop

The wrist goes light. For a fraction of a second the watch weighs almost nothing, which is what falling actually feels like to an accelerometer — and nothing else in a day does.

The landing

A spike, close behind the drop. It has to arrive inside a short window, or the watch decides it was an arm swing or a watch tossed onto a bed — and says nothing.

The stillness

Then nothing moves. This is the phase that matters: it separates someone who fell and got up from someone who fell and cannot. Movement here cancels the whole thing, silently.

Why it is not the same watch as a child's

An older person's fall is quieter, and that is exactly the danger.

A child hits the ground hard twenty times a day and is running again in three seconds. An eighty-year-old's fall may be a soft crumple that barely registers as an impact at all — and then they do not get up. Those are opposite problems, so the watch is set differently for each: it listens for a gentler landing, and it waits longer on the stillness before it decides anything.

The thirty seconds after

It sends unless you stop it.

That direction is the entire point. A watch that sends only when asked is silent in the one situation it was bought for.

Thirty seconds, and a big Cancel

Long enough to sit up, find the watch and press once. Half a minute rather than the ten seconds a child gets, because getting off the floor at eighty is not a ten-second job. There is a Send now button beside it for the times you would rather not wait.

A siren, right away — not after

It starts the instant the fall is confirmed and runs all the way through the countdown, because the neighbour downstairs can be there in twenty seconds and a message on a phone two cities away cannot. Press Cancel and it stops with everything else.

A low battery makes it quieter. It never makes it silent.

Most devices switch things off when the battery sags. This one turns the siren down instead — the sound gets softer as the cell drains and never reaches nothing, because the day it is nearly flat is not a day to stop shouting. A fall is never suppressed to save power.

Call the watch back and it answers itself.

For ten minutes after a fall, a call from family connects without anyone touching the screen — so you can talk to someone lying on the floor who cannot reach their wrist. Outside those ten minutes an ordinary call rings and waits, like any other watch.

And the button, when they can reach it

A deliberate press sends immediately, with no countdown at all. The thirty seconds exist for the fall the watch decided about — never for the press a person meant to make.

What arrives

Not an alert. Enough to decide.

“A fall was detected” tells you to panic and nothing else. The questions you actually have are: did she hit her head, is she talking, is she moving, is anyone with her. Those have answers, and they arrive with the alert.

Pictures, from every angle at once
Seven cameras around the bezel, all of them, the moment the fall is confirmed. One wrist position cannot show the room; seven can. Is she on the floor or in a chair? Is anyone else there?
Sound, from before it happened
The twenty seconds of audio leading into the fall are kept, not discarded — the stumble, the impact, whether she called out, and whether anything is being said now. Sound answers questions a picture cannot.
The minutes leading up to it
The frames from before the fall ship first, ahead of the live ones. What she tripped on, whether she was already unsteady, whether someone was with her.
Exactly where
Location goes with it every time. Kitchen floor, bottom of the stairs, or two streets from home changes what you do next, and it is the one thing an ambulance always asks first.

Who decides

The watch does not judge how bad it is. You do — with something to look at.

There is no severity score, no diagnosis and no software opinion about whether an ambulance is needed. What changes is that the person making that call is no longer guessing from a notification and an unanswered phone. A link opens on any phone, and it opens for whoever you forward it to — a neighbour who is closer, a carer, the crew on their way.

After dark

Most falls happen on the way to the bathroom.

A hallway at 2am is not a photographic studio, so the cameras were chosen for that light rather than for daylight.

Built to work in dim light

Black-and-white sensors, which collect far more of what little light there is than a colour one, and an exposure that stretches itself in a dark scene — around thirty times more sensitive than a daylight setting. A landing light, a lamp left on, a streetlit pavement, the glow from a doorway: that is enough.

It is not night vision, and we will not call it that

There is no infrared. We considered building it in and decided against it — seven emitters bright enough to matter would have made a watch nobody wants to wear, and a watch left in a drawer detects nothing. In a genuinely dark room the pictures will show shape and movement, not a face. The sound and the siren do not care about the light at all.

Because the sensors take the whole frame in one instant rather than scanning it line by line, a picture taken by a falling wrist is not smeared into uselessness — which is the failure most wearable cameras have at exactly this moment.

The other 364 days

On an ordinary day, nothing leaves the watch.

Not to us, not to the cloud, not to the family. This is not a setting someone can turn on from another city. It is how the watch is built.

Why this decided the whole design

Nobody wears a camera that uploads their bathroom.

The obvious way to build this is to record everything to the cloud and let the family scroll back. It would work, and it would be refused — politely, by leaving the watch on the dresser. So the cameras run, but what they see lives only inside the watch, in memory, for a few minutes, and is written over. Nothing is sent. Nothing is stored anywhere. There is nothing to browse, so there is nothing to ask to browse.

Ordinary day

Held for minutes, then gone.

The last few minutes exist, on the wrist, and are continuously overwritten by the next few. Nobody can reach them — including us, including the family, including anyone who takes the watch.

A fall, or a press

Those minutes become real.

Only then do they leave the watch — the lead-up first, then what is happening now, for twelve hours. When that ends, it goes quiet again by itself. Nobody has to remember to turn it off.

There is no way to look in and check on them. Not for the family, not for a carer, not for us. Outside a fall or a press, the watch refuses — and it is the watch that refuses, not a permission someone could be talked into changing. Where she is is the one exception, and it is always shared: location is what finds a person, and it is not what anyone is embarrassed about.

What we are not going to claim

Three things this does not do.

It will not catch every fall.

A slow slide down a wall never has the weightless moment the watch is looking for. A fall onto the other arm softens the landing it needs to see. No wrist device solves those, and any that says it does is telling you something it cannot know. What we will not do is let that become a reason to stay quiet about the falls it does see.

It does not dial an ambulance. It makes sure you can.

Within seconds it reaches the people you chose, sounds where the wearer is so anyone nearby comes first, and hands the family the pictures and the sound. Then a person who has actually seen what happened makes the call — and can say what they saw when the operator asks. That is the design, not a gap in it: a device dialling on a guess sends an ambulance to a dropped watch and nobody to the fall it missed. What we will not do is let you assume the watch has already called.

A fall clip is protected by access, not by cryptography.

Our other watches lock recordings to a key only the wearer or the parent holds, so we genuinely cannot open them. This one is deliberately different, and it is the one place on this site where our answer is weaker. A fall clip has to be openable by whoever is closest — a neighbour, a carer, an ambulance crew holding a forwarded link — and none of them holds a key. So it is protected by an unguessable link and the account behind the app, which means TrustedWear can read a fall clip. We could hide that sentence. We would rather you buy this knowing it.

In one breath

It is quiet until the day it is not.

No daily check-ins, no app to open, nothing to charge but the watch. It sends nothing and shows nobody anything — until she goes down and does not get up. Then it shouts where she is, tells the people she chose, and hands them the minute before, the moment itself and the minutes after, so somebody can decide something instead of worrying.
